Hi, I'm going to be visiting Paris in a few weeks. It's not my first time visiting, but was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for lesser known boutiques and designers off the beaten path — I'll probably be staying away from the obvious shops near the 8th arrondissement this time around. So, I'm looking for some good places to shop that are unique that locals tend to frequent. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would try checking out some of shops in the 3rd and 4th Arrondissement. You'll find some really great small shops there. Though, unfortunately, not too many bargains.
I've had luck at Lobato (in the 4th) for shoes and their handbags alone are worth the trip.

I agree. Anywhere on the rue des Rosiers and Roi-de-Sicile in the 4th Arrondisement you'll do fine. There are an overwhelming amount of small shops there.
"L'Habilleur" on rue de Poitou (I think it's in the 3rd) is well known for having good bargains from top collections. The clothes are all one year old, but on the right season. Though, finding something good that actually fits there is not easy. Even if you don't find anything it's a great area for a quiet walk.

Take the Metro to Les Halles and walk up Rue Montmatre, cute stores with French designers like at Jack Gomme and Claudie Pierlot and Agnes B, most of which you can find imported in the States; and some others that you cannot whose names escape me at the moment. When I was younger and broke and visiting friends, they all shopped at Pimkie, a kind of H&M for knock-off cheap fashion. Not a boutique at all, but maybe fun to poke around. Once you're done shopping, or at the start of your trip, treat yourself to lunch at Colette (in the basement, complete with water bar) and ogle the fancy clothes upstairs. All of these should be Google-able. Meanwhile, jealous! and have fun.

Start with a coffee at the Deux Magots and cross the road to the Rue du Dragon and turn right at the end into the Rue de Grenelle. The shops in a 200m radius are both high-fashion and more interesting mid-fashion.

When you're tired, walk back to the Deux Magots and head for the Rue de Buci. Buy your picnic at the market there or in one of the many shops along Rue Saint-Andre des Arts and walk on along Rue Saint-Severin to find a bench in the sun near Notre Dame.....sheer magic!
