I was going through some of my photos of trips I've taken over the past few years and came across a shot taken from my the corner Junior Suite balcony (Room 471, in case you want to book it) at the Hotel Splendido in Portofino, Italy.

The view was absolutely breathtaking. One of the best views I have ever had from a hotel room in my life, and it would be a shame not to share it with everyone here.

As you can see, the view was overlooking the mouth of Portofino's tiny harbor. The room's balcony was enormous, and was accessible from a two different pairs of small swinging double glass doors. There was a table and chairs to enjoy a proper meal, and shade was provided from old vines that had twisted around an iron canopy. And hummingbirds were always buzzing about the flowers during the day. Paradise in many ways.

If you ever stay at the Hotel Splendido in Portofino, you must book Room 471. It was the best of the Junior Suites at the hotel, and it was definitely worth it.

If you have some photos, or tips, of other amazing views from rooms in other hotels around the world, you should add them below. Let's get a list going...

Those views are wonderful. I think any view in Italy is hard to beat.
I have this picture of the view from my window at the Hotel du Louvre in Paris. It doesn't look so nice now because it's a scanned image of a picture taken back in 1990 (ages ago, before the digital era), but it was a great view also:

Reid's Palace, the legendary luxury hotel in Madeira, the little island off the West Coast of Africa, is one of those spots where the views are absolutely gorgeous. The hotel has been in existence for over 100 years and is now part of the Orient-Express organization. The views overlook the Atlantic Ocean and the Bay of Funchal and are simply breathtaking. I vividly remember enjoying dinner one evening at the hotel's Cipriani Restaurant, sitting at an open-air table and watching a beautiful sunset, while the ocean waves came crashing in just below. The hotel's gardens are also spectacular and, if one is looking for a nice, relaxing vacation, close to nature, while not being too far away from civilization, Reid's Palace is just the place to go.

Of all of the wonderful hotels that we've stayed in, by far, the one with the most spectacular views is Le Chateau de la Chevre d'Or, in Eze village, on the fabled Cote d'Asur. This magnificent five-star French resort (a Relais & Chateaux property) is situated high on the cliffs that overlook Eze-sur-Mer, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, the Mediterranean and the glistening white beaches of the French Riviera, thousands of feet below. Part of the hotel is dug into the side of the cliffs themselves and some of the rooms are actually old caves! Le Chateau de la Chevre d'Or is right in the heart of the medieval Eze village, a charming little place that can be found almost exactly halfway between Nice and Monte Carlo, each of which are only about twenty minutes away. The hotel is, indeed, luxurious and the hotel's Restaurant Chevre D'Or is known to be one of the finest on the Cote d'Asur. But, when we reflect back on our stay there, the memories that immediately come to mind are those of the awesome views we had while having breakfast on our terrace.

Pictures cannot give justice to how beautiful the views are. However, if you click on the following link:

and then click on some of the photos on their website (in particular, the ones in the "360 degree view") you can get a little bit of the feeling of what I am talking about.

Another great view, also in Italy, is at La Sirenuse. One of the most picturesque places to stay. I will never forget this view.

This was our ocean view room at The Kahala in Hawaii, back when it was a Mandarin Oriental. A beautiful room and a beautiful view!

I guess the best view is either a strictly personal choice, or there is a large variety of categories. For a view that represents your seclusion in the lap of luxury, the Nihiwatu in Indonesia fits that bill.

As the only resort on the island, they have the ability to provide the secluded experience. I was there during a private party and was one of only two people from outside the group in the small resort.

Every cottage was set out with a view of this bay.

The views of Lake Geneva from Le Montreux Palace (which was part of Raffles when I stayed but is now a Fairmont) are spectacular. I was in Montreux for 3 nights and was awed by the view every time I looked out my window. The colours changed throughout the day so I felt like I was seeing something new each time.

I have recently stayed at the Wine Country Inn, http://www.winecountryinn.com, located in St. Helena, California. The views are lovely from every room but the Vintner's Cottage is my first choice for privacy with a wonderful vineyard view.

What a fabulous (and beautiful) topic!!!!!

The David Citadel in Jerusalem has magnificent views of the Old City.

ALSO, Beit Shmuel (nothing luxurious about it) is a youth hostel in Jersusalem that has some remarkable views of the Old City as well.

Hope to post Old City photos from my David Citadel post soon!!!

Grand Velas All Suites & Spa Resort - Nuevo Vallarta Mexico.

We had a wonderful time spending new years holiday there. The view was spectacular and the service was terrific. The food and wine was first class. The one and only all-inclusive we will stay at.

While some of the most spectacular views that we have enjoyed from our hotel rooms over the years have been found in natural settings, far from the hustle and bustle of big cities, every once in a while we've experienced some awesome views from hotel rooms right in the midst of civilization. We were in Paris just a few months ago and, while we were there, we stayed at The Hotel Le Meurice. All of these attached photographs were taken from the terrace of our room at the Meurice. We had a simply gorgeous room there and, when we walked out on the terrace and looked down, there was a magnificent view of the Tuileries Gardens. Then, when we looked up and around, depending on which direction we were facing, we had equally wonderful views of the Musée du Louvre, Notre Dame de Paris, Musée d'Orsay and the Eiffel Tower, all from the same spot! As far as city views of one of the most beautiful cities in the world, it's hard to top the views from The Hotel Le Meurice.
