I am hosting a small private party at a 5 star luxury hotel in New York next week. The staff has asked if any of my guests have particular "favorite" things, like a favorite cocktail, or a favorite type of music. They said that they like people to have the WOW factor on their property. I absolutely love this idea. I am paying for excellent service, why shouldn't my guests benefit from it, as well? I was wondering if any of you have had similar WOW experiences you could share to help me give some suggestions.

I never did try it, but if I was handed one at a party I'm sure it would have made an interesting conversation piece. It had chocolate liqueur, Martini and a truffle that was soaked in vodka for over 48 hours.

To me that's not a bad start. But I would really be WOWed if they could put together a rare wine tasting during the party. Let everyone have a taste of something extremely rare from their cellar. Better yet, having the tasting, in the cellar itself.

This lovely touch might serve the dual purpose of "place card" for each of your special guests.

But if you really put that in perspective, getting Itzhak Perlman to perform at your party would be a jaw-dropping experience.

Then again, a harpist is one of those instruments that people actually say, "wow, look it's a harp!" Although, maybe that's not the 'wow' experience you're talking about.
