Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

    Has anyone here stayed at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise during the summer? If so, I'd be interested to hear your impressions and tips on which rooms to book. I assume the rooms facing the lake are the way to go. I'd also like to know how long the ideal stay there would be before we felt like we had seen and done everything there is to do there.

    We visited in July of 2007 and enjoyed the resort. We first spent two nights in the smaller Emerald Lake Lodge not far from Lake Louise- lovely cottages overlooking a glacier fed lake, with on premises dining. We highly recommend the Inn. We spent two additional nights at the Fairmont using it as a base for driving the scenic highway toward Jasper and touring Banff. There was heavy road construction in and around Banff, so we spent nearly all our time enjoying Lake Louise and the Icefields Parkway. Hiking the resort's lakeside and mountain trails leading to the glaciers is special. We dined both nights in an informal area off the hotel lobby overlooking the lake through a pallidian window- we chose it the second night over the Fairmont's top rated restaurant.

    Regarding room options, I would recommend the Deluxe Rooms facing the lake. Since this is a historic property, the Standard (or Fairmont Rooms in this case) and definitely on the smaller side. The extra space in the Deluxe Rooms would make for a much more comfortable stay. If you're willing to splurge the Fairmont Gold Rooms are worth considering. I've experienced the Gold Floor at the Fairmonts in Boston, Vancouver and Southampton Bermuda and those trips were quite memorable as a result. The Gold Concierge teams provide exemplary service.
