I will be visiting Hong Kong for the first time later this year and am looking for suggestions as to the best or favorite hotel? (either Hong Kong island or Kowloon)

For us, The Peninsula comes first, but The Mandarin Oriental clocks in at a VERY close second... Both would be winning options.

I totally agree with JL. The Pen just can't be beaten. I also like the Grand Hyatt tremendously.

I agree, the Peninsula is the best. Service is excellent as well. The higher floors offer excellent views. I would say the Four Seasons is the next best hotel and then the Manadarin Oriental is a close third.
At the very least, you must have high tea in the lobby of the Peninsula. It would be a shame to travel all that way and miss one of life's simple pleasures.

We love the Hong Kong InterContinental on Kowloon side. A room or suite facing the harbor is spectaculor. It is as convenient as staying at the Peninsula with better views.

So many superb choices in Hong Kong. I recommend Hotel LKF for a sophisticated break from the big chains.

The Peninsula is the best hotel in Hong Kong, with a great location and also has private helicopter tours from its rooftop, one of the best ways to see all of the Hong Kong islands.
