I'd love to hear any first-hand accounts of stays in Jamaica from anyone who has stayed at some of the more renowned places such as Half Moon Bay, Strawberry HIll or Round Hill. At the moment, I'm having a little trouble deciding between the destinations. I'm looking for a place where I can just relax and enjoy some peace and quiet for a few days!

I've been to Round Hill, and it is a marvelous place to stay. It's not a typical resort however. It's basically about a dozen privately owned villas nestled into a hillside that are each custom designed by the owner. Some villas are nicer than others, but overall most have spectacular views and terrific decks and pools to relax in. It's also a good place for families as many of the villas have extra rooms for children.

It's very picturesque there, and the resort was the set of a number of movies, including In Like Flint (James Colburn) and How Stella Got Her Groove Back (Angela Bassett, Taye Diggs, Whoopi Goldberg).

Also, Ralph Lauren has a private villa that's right on the beach and he flies in every once in a while to relax. I think you can rent it out when he's not around.

It's a very casual atmosphere, and one I think you'd enjoy to get away from it all. Good luck!

I suggest Goldeneye, owned by Island Records folunder, Chris Blackwell (Bob Marley, U2) It is a stunning property in Jamaica to stay. There are several villas on the 50 acre ocean & lagoon filled property, and it was once the home of Ian Fleming, who wrote all his James Bond books there. It is run by Blackwell's chic Island Outpost hotel group.

Goldeneye is an hour drive from Montego Bay airport on a new road, or there is an airstrip near the property. Last time I was there, Harrison Ford was in the other villa.

Goldeneye, the only address in Jamaica. Round Hill is nice for golf but I'm afraid that's it. Strawberry Hill is lovely. If you happen to stay at Strawberry Hill - have a massage there - it's worth visiting just for that!
