First time visitor to Atlanta in the fall.
Attending a several day business meeting at the World Congress Center there.
Looking for high end/fun hotel to stay at. Also looking for great dining, nightlife, and shopping. Not asking for much :)
Is it true midtown is a nicer area to stay than downtown, and can you use MARTA to get from midtown to the GWCC ? I hear Buckhead is upscale but maybe not as fun or convenient to the convention site.
Thanks so much for any advice. -

The Four Seasons is the best hotel in town by far. They offer you a complimentary driver, so you needn't worry about transportation to and from the Congress Center.
And yes, midtown is a much better place to stay than downtown. Buckhead is also a great choice but a little bit out of your way. There is a Ritz Carlton in downtown, but it's not the place to stay if you want to have fun. The Ritz Carlton in Buckhead will suit you much better than downtown. However, the rates at the Ritz Carlton in Buckhead can be more expensive than even the Four Seasons in midtown. If it were me, I'd take advantage of the Four Seasons driver and have them drive you to Buckhead instead of staying in Buckhead since you have so much business in the downtown area.

Terrible news, about that tornado in downtown Atlanta. I heard the Congress Center was ankle deep in water. Hopefully things will be repaired by the time you visit in the Fall.
