Can anyone recommend any memorable places to eat in Madrid? I'm looking for a few places that are casual/comfortable and charming and serve exquisite food. Preferably they should not be too noisy. My thanks in advance.
Charming: Museo del Jamon, with locations all over the city, has excellent jamon and outstanding paellas.
More upscale AND charming: Meson Txistu serves Northern Spanish/Basque cuisine. It is exquisite fare. Their jamon jabugo de bellotas is first-grade pata negra.

A few years ago we did a road trip through Spain. Madrid was our first stop.
We dined at Balzar Restaurant and remember it being charming. Also, any tapas place seemed to get it right.
What wasn't charming was the next day, walking down a main street and being grabbed from behind and robbed in broad daylight. This seems to be a common occurance. So, enjoy Spain, it's very interesting but be careful!
