    Hi all,

Later this month, I have to take a crazy trip across Japan, spending just one or two nights in each of the following places:

    Tokyo
    Fukuoka
    Kyoto
    Osaka
    Kochi
    Kushiro
    Hakone
    Yamagata
    Ishikawa
    Shuzenji
    Ito

If you guys are familiar with Japan and had to recommend just 1 must-visit restaurant per place, where would you go?'

(Obviously, Tokyo and Kyoto are tough to choose for, but I am more concerned with the other places.)

    Thanks,

    A

I do remember Herry posted that his favorite restaurant in Japan was Misogui-gawa, a French restuarant in Kyoto. He also listed it as one of his seven favorite restaurants in the world. So, I would think that's a must visit while in Kyoto.

Have you ever seen the "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations" episode where he visits Osaka?

Well, ever since I watched that episode I have wanted to try the sushi place that he goes to in Osaka and swears was the best sushi he's ever had. It's a teeny-tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurant near Umeda Station that's supposed to serve the most amazing sushi. It's been run by the same husband and wife for the past 40-something years. And if you see the episode you'll practically want to make a trip to Osaka just to taste it. I was able to figure out the name and location of the place after doing a little digging:

    Koyo-shi
    1-3-12 Shibata
    Kita-Ku, Osaka
    (JR station Hanku Umeda)
    Phone 06-6372-5747
    Map

It's a very small restaurant. Barely and room for the counter itself. Take a look at some photos and see for yourself.

I hope to be able to try it on my next trip to Osaka, but let me know what you think if you go!

Forager: Thanks. That looks like a great place.

Abeam: Thanks so much. This is great. I'll be sure to check it out.

My fave sushi place in Osaka is Endo Sushi, next to the wholesale market. I wrote about it here a while back. Also, if you want an amazing but expensive gastronomic feast (at a restaurant Tetsuya Wakuda said was his favourite in Japan), check out Kahala on your next trip. I also write about it here.

Thanks so much for the recommendation.
