I am going to Capri for the first time August 22nd to September 2nd. I need suggestions of where to eat, shop, party, and other things to do there. I will be staying at Scalinatella, but I'm not certain if this hotel is the best one on the island.
The best place to stay on Capri is the Grand Hotel Quisisana. The rooms are just gorgeous. I'd rate La Scalinatella as a close second. Though, my personal feeling is that La Scalinatella is overpriced compared to the Quisisana when you compare the two side by side. Both are beautiful places to stay, so you won't be disappointed.
The poolside lunches at La Scalinatella are fantastic. However, you should also make a point to go for a lunch by the poolside at the Quisisana if you can. Both are delightful and the Quisisana makes for good celebrity watching during the summers.
You've probably booked your hotel stay already, but I have to say that JK Capri is a much more interesting and unique hotel. It's near the Marina Grande - maybe worth checking out whilst you are there as it has a cool lounge bar too. As for what to do whilst you are there...after all the celeb spotting, shopping and style-conscious swanning around, you might like a bit of tranquility. Hire a boat to find the most secluded coves, or pick up walking maps and routes from the tourist office at 59 Via G Orlandi (+39 081 837 1524). Walk or get a cable car up to the highest spot on the island: Mount Solaro for the best viewpoint. Hope you have a great trip!
