My husand and I will be in Rome next week. I'm looking for any restaurant recommendations and/or shopping suggestions.

With the dollar now hovering at about 1.47 dollars per euro, my advice would be not to do much shopping. Whatever it is, you can probably get it for a much less expensive price in the USA. (That advice, of course, assumes that you're coming from the USA.) One exception would be Ansuini Jewelers, a little family-owned jewelry store that goes back 5 generations and makes jewelry for the Vatican and other prestigious clients in Rome. (You can ask your concierge for their address.) Believe it or not, their jewelry is remarkably affordable and fairly priced.
If you'd like a casual, delicious and very enjoyable restaurant, I'd recomend "Santo Padre," which is within easy walking distance of some of the hotels on the Via Venetto and just a few blocks away from the St. Regis Grand. If you're looking for something more luxurious, "Vivendo" is located in the St. Regis Grand. It's one of, if not the, finest restaurants in Rome. It's a bit pricey, but well worth it.
You might also try reading some of the other recommendations I have posted on Extravigator.com about where to stay in Rome and what to do while you're there.
