Anything New in Andalucia?
  • Would really appreciate any tips on hotels/country inns in western andulacia, nearer to the coast and Jerez de la Frontera.

Looking for charm and a bit of luxury, of course!
  • I don't have anything new for you. But would you consider something old? Spain has wonderful Paradores throughout the countryside. They are essentially historic buildings, such as monasteries and castles, which have been converted to hotels. The New York Times had a good article on the Paradores not to long ago.

There are quite a few in Andalucia, and a handful within striking distance of Jerez de la Frontera. Spain has an official (government sponsored, I believe) organization that runs the Paradores.

Go to http://www.paradores.es, and do a search on the interactive map. At the top of each Parador's page, they show their official star rating.

I thought that this parador looked intriguing. And it's in the neighborhood of your destination.
  • Andalusia, once the great stronghold of Muslim Spain is rich in history and tradition, containing some of the country's most celebrated treasures: the world-famous Mezquita (mosque) in Córdoba, the Alhambra in Granada, and the great Gothic cathedral in Seville. Give Andalusia at least a week and you'll still have only skimmed the surface. I think staying in paradors, ideally located in the historic cities or rural areas is the good way to explore the country. They offer high standards of comfort and service, delicious food. Look at Parador de Acros de la Frontera, 30 km from Jeres or Parador de Cadiz or Parador de Ronda for instance. You can book the entire voyage with the tour operator. The one I can recommend is Escapade Vacation. Rent a car, drive and explore paradors of Andalusia.
