I can't resist listing some more great restaurants, even though I've used up my seven favorites already. One of my dear friends has taken a bet with another that Obama will win: the prize is dinner at the restaurant of the winner's choice. Air fare and hotel paid too, of course! So my list grows:
Gonpatchi, Tokyo. This fabulous yakkitori restaurant in Roppongi is in an old wooden barn which was once a theatre, and has the greatest atmosphere. This photo doesn't do it justice. It would be particularly sweet to have it as prize as Koizumi once took Bush there....
I lived in Tokyo for a few years, with my wife and two of our children. After returning to the USA, I've continued to travel to Japan, and to Tokyo, fairly frequently. However, during all that time, we somehow missed dining at Gonpatchi. I'll put it on my list and I'll be sure to go there the next time I return to Tokyo!
Many believe that Del Posto is one of the best restaurants in the United States. It's one of the few establishments in New York City to have earned a coveted four-star ranking from The New York Times. Del Posto is located near the recently-opened the High Line park, which used to be the old New York Central right-of-way for freight trains traveling down the lower west side of Manhattan. The owners Joseph Bastianich, Lidia Bastianich and Mario Batali, and the chef, Mark Ladner, have created a 24,000-square-foot palace that embraces all that is to be loved in Italian cuisine and that has to be seen, as well as to be experienced. If you're ever traveling through New York City, it's not to be missed!
