Hello-
I am the publisher of a high-end coffee table style, glossy magazine that has been in existence for about 5 years. Thus far, we have been advertising driven, but have thought about changing that to circulation driven. My question and request for thoughts and opinions is on subscriptions rates:
Would there be people interested in subscribing to the magazine that is 260 pages cover to cover, printed on heavy stock glossy paper for a true coffee table book feel for a higher subscription rate of $100-$120 for 12 print issues that contains only advertising that was donated to non-profit organizations or limited partners that we feel are relevant to our readers. but no more than 20 pages per issue?
I appreciate any thoughts and feedback.
Thank you! -

I don't think I'd personally subscribe to a $100-$120/year magazine. I already get Departures with my Platinum Card membership, but I rarely read it. It too goes on the coffee table.
Perhaps if you were able to offer something valuable with the subscription — like free upgrades at select 5-star hotels, I'd be interested. Otherwise, it makes a rather overpriced coffee table ornament.

Thank you for your feedback.
We do offer a contest currently and would do the same no matter what the subscription rate is. Right now, the contest prize is a culinary trip for two to Italy.
Beginning in January, we will offer on our website travel videos, a travel blog, quarterly newsletter with various promotions, etc....
I do like the idea of getting free upgrades to 5-star hotels and will discuss that with our partner hotels, spas, etc....it would be something good for the newsletter promotions.
Thank you again.

I would not subscribe to a coffee table type magazine. Frankly, I have 4 hardcover travel picture coffee table books as it is and I was thinking about giving one away. And the few subscription magazines I do have, I don't have time to read as it is. I am in the publishing business, and there is little success rate with subscriber based paid circulation model. Many travel books are membership based or if paid, maybe $10 or $12 annual sub rates...and that is only to sell advertising to the "100% paid circulation".
