In Rome, our favorite hotel is the St. Regis Grand. When we're there, we usually stay in Room 438. I described what we liked about the St. Regis Grand previously in the following post on Extravigator.com:
http://extravigator.com/discussion/26/enjoying-rome/
In Florence, we stay at the Hotel Regency, which was the subject of another post on Extravigator.com:
http://extravigator.com/discussion/265/hotel-regency-in-florence/
While at the Regency, we always stay in room 205, which we feel is, by far, the best room in the hotel. In fact, we've heard from friends that, compared to room 205, some of the other rooms in the hotel can be a little cramped.
In Venice, our favorite hotel (and the only one we stay in) is the Hotel Cipriani. Unfortunately, loml95, since you're planning to go there in November, I won't bother to provide a suggested room number because I'm fairly sure that the Cipriani will be closed in November, and will remain closed until the Spring season. However, if you'd like to see the view from our room at the Cipriani, which overlooks the waterfront and the front entrance by way of the motor launch, you can see it by clicking on the following link:

Enjoy your trip to Italy!

Hello again, loml95. In 2007, I posted some suggestions on Extravigator.com that have to do with Venice. I believe all of these suggestions are still valid and they can be found by clicking on the following link:
http://extravigator.com/discussion/7/suggestions-for-venice/
With respect to what hotel you might want to stay in while you're there, since the Cipriani is closed for the season, you might want to try the Gritti Palace Hotel:
http://gritti.hotelinvenice.com/?source=googleh
Since we've always stayed at the Cipriani when we've been in Venice, we've never stayed at the Gritti Palace, or any place else. However, our daughter and her husband stayed there while on their honeymoon and they loved it. It's got a perfect location, a few blocks away from St. Mark's square, and it's got a very good reputation. Of course, I can't recommend a room number. But, if you get a really nice room overlooking the Grand Canal, I'm sure you'll be very happy.
Once again, enjoy Italy and, in particular, Venice. It's my favorite city in Italy!

loml95 - I see from your post yesterday, on another subject, that you still haven't decided on where to stay in Rome. In that regard, you might want to look at possibly staying at The Lord Byron, a charming little boutique hotel that is the sister hotel of The Hotel Regency in Florence, which I talked about previously in this discussion.

thank you, don pablo. i am being so indecisive when it comes to rome. booked the four seasons in florence and gritti palace in venice. don't want to be disappointed that i didn't go for it with the hotel de russie but the room category that i really is a little out of reach! so i keep waffling. the majestic looks nice and i have been looking at the lord byron and the raphael...

Hello again, loml95. I'm flattered that you took my suggestion for a hotel in Venice. We've never stayed at the Hotel de Russie in Rome and don't know very much about it. However, as I've said before, we just love the St. Regis Grand in the "eternal city" and I'm sure that you could stay in our favorite room there, room 438, for much less than the room you've booked at the Four Seasons in Florence.
Good luck with whatever you decide and have a great trip!

thank you, again. yes, it was on your suggestion that we booked the gritti palace. and the four seasons was always my first choice in florence. can i ask what room category 438 falls under?
i do get a lot of recommendations for the st. regis, i just have never been a huge starwood fan. but i would love to know more about your "favorite" room! -

Hello once again, loml95. We've been staying in room 438 in the St. Regis Grand in Rome for so long that I haven't the slightest idea about what "category" the room can be found in. However, I can tell you that it is a large room, on a high floor, and that it has lots of drawers and more than ample closet room, since we travel for extended periods of time and take a good deal of clothes with us. It also has a wonderful view of the main square on the side of the hotel, so that it doesn't face the street in the front, where there is continuing, Rome traffic. The fourth floor provides butler service, which we always take advantage of, but which normally adds to the price of the room. It's got a king-size bed and some very nice furniture - easy chairs, ottomans, couches, coffee table, night tables, etc. The bathroom is quite luxurious, and there are two sinks, a bathtub, a separate shower, a toilet and a bidet. In short, it's a great room and, if you're going to be there in November, which is definitely off-season, you should be able to get a great rate, including the delightful full-breakfast in their charming and elegant breakfast area.
