I just recently returned from Denver CO (for a business trip). Downtown Denver over the past few years has made a great comeback and slowly but surely fine dining establishments have grown. After hearing rave reviews about Restaurant Kevin Taylor, I made a reservation and went with two business associates for dinner. It’s a small restaurant with exceptional service. Kevin Taylor has a unique flare and style of cooking. Just avoid the wine pairing option.

Any chance you could tell us why the wine pairing was a disappointment??

As with many of the restaurants I go to, I usually try to avoid the wine pairing (usually due to a so-so selection or the wine being open and stale). However, this evening the selection looked good and one of the people in the group had never tried a wine pairing and really wanted to try it. While the first two wines sampled were quite good, when the third one was poured, there was only enough in the bottle for one glass. As a result, I received a fresh bottle. This was a bonus for me, but when I requested to sample the glass from the old bottle that was poured, it had no bouquet and the taste was completely flat (compared to my pour). I motioned to the server and explained the situation. They immediately took away the other glass and poured from the new bottle. In addition they offered us a complementary pour of desert wine (which was ok), but I appreciated their trying to make up for the incident. In short, unless the restaurant is very good about using new bottles, the wine pairing option is a game of Russian roulette.
