Here's my take on the Peninsula Beverly Hills. I was there not too long ago and had a great stay. Here's the room. It was a Deluxe Room. Very elegant, just the way I like it.
Great workspace, not that I did much work. The room even came with a fax machine and pre-printed business cards and stationery with my name on it and the direct line to the room! I almost felt like a Hollywood agent.
The bathroom was huge, but the decor in there seemed pretty dated compared to the rest of the room. Who knows? Maybe they haven't renovated them yet. But, you could tell they had put some thought into fine details. In the shower there's a teeny foot ledge for shaving. And instead of a plain wash cloth, they left a little cloth hand mitt and an endless supply of Molton Brown toiletries.
Everything about the hotel is posh. If you ever come across one of the staff as you walk down the hallway, they'll immediately stop what they are doing, stand against the wall at attention, and smile at you like you were royalty. It's little things like that that make you feel a little extra special.
The exclusive rooftop pool was definitely a scene. Private cabanas can be rented with advance notice (helps to reserve before you arrive, btw) and the renter's name is placed on the side for all to see. Not sure I needed to signs that named who dropped hundreds of dollars for a pool tent, but that's the way it is.
Every once in a while someone brings you a complementary refreshing snack so you never get hungry. And they come around and give foot massages for those who sign up by the pool entrance. Oh, and complementary sunscreen is a nice touch too!
Everything about the hotel is nearly flawless. The service is tops. The restaurant is excellent. But, here's the weird part. When you come into the pool, the staff seats you and sets you up with towels and a knee pillow, like you see below-- another nice touch. But, take a closer look at the photo...
Notice the stains on the knee pillow?
It wasn't just mine. Looking around the perimeter of the pool, it looked like all of the pillows were covered with sweat stains and sunscreen residue! Don't they clean those covers?!? Maybe a little bleach might help?
OK, so it's not the end of the world. And maybe those sweat stains were from the celebrities that frequent the hotel. Even still, my recommendation is to stick the pillows under the towel.
Other than that, the stay was close to perfect!

Hmmm...a huge contrast to our stay there during the Grammy awards, when our non-celebrity status demoted us to the room beneath the gym (thud thud thud from 6am onwards) and breakfast offered on a coffee table in the lobby (reservations only in the dining room). The wait for the valet parking was interminable and any hope of attracting the attention of hotel staff was best dismissed.
Hugely disappointing.
