Please please help....stuck on Honeymoon Destination!

Hi All,

I am going on my honeymoon in December and am starting this with a short safari in Kenya. After this, we are planning to hit a beach to relax. My fiancee is to find out where we are going when we reach the airport. I am really stuck between Mauritius and Seychelles. Can anyone offer any advice as to these two?

I just want the honeymoon to be romantic with dinners on the beach, breakfasts prepared on our balconies etc and lots of little surprises. Does anyone have any ideas or resorts that could accomodate this?

Over the past two or three years, I've found that it has become much more difficult to use our frequent flyer miles to get free airline tickets to the destinations that we want to go to, and at the times we want to travel. In addition, the airlines seem to be requiring twice the amount of frequent flyer miles that they had been asking for, for the same tickets, a few years ago, especially for business class and first class international tickets. Have any of you experienced this and, if so, do you have any suggestions for better results?

Does anybody else notice the incredible deals on luxury hotels these days? Even the NY Times ran a story the other day on how occupancy in the resilient Manhattan market was below 80%. And I'm suddenly finding prices I could almost swallow on five star properties that I wouldn't dare set foot in a year ago. The best deal I've found so far-- $400 off, a night, for the St. Regis Aspen. Anybody else find anything good?

How to use a webcam software for monitoring your home when you are away for a vacation?

As a family, we travel a considerable amount - we take off almost every weekend on little road trips and a couple of times a year on larger planned vacations. We don't have a professional security system at home, because honestly, I haven't felt the need for it so far. I use a very basic webcam monitoring service that's available off the internet. What I've done is - set up 2 webcams, one each at both points of entry to my house. I have a sofware (GotoCamera) that i've downloaded, which sends me an email alert every single time there's any motion that is detected in front of my webcam. So basically, if a burglar enters, he's not only caught on camera, but I'm also informed about it immediately. All this costs me less than $4 a month. The reason i'm writing such a detailed note is that i know a bunch of people who don't know ways to take care of their homes while away on vacation. Since I do, I hope it helps out atleast a few people who don't. Currently, I use GotoCamera www.gotocamera.com for the webcam software. If any of you happen to come across other good options, do let me know! Thanks!

Family Trip (not looking for ordinary; surprise celebration for special occasion; sizable budget)

(wife & kids [ages 6 & 7]), my wife's sister's family (2 adults, 4 kids [ages 12-17]), and their parents - 6 adults and 6 kids total.

Anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks.

We have an 8 BR house in Rio where we might stay for some of the trip, though we could be interested in other weekend accommodations [if the right ones]. I was thinking a mini tour including multiple destinations (we're in NY) perhaps to Miami, Barbados, then Sao Paolo / Rio. Tourist-tailored tours will not be suitable as half of the family is very familiar with the area.

Simply looking for suggestions for out of the ordinary, luxurious ideas.

Best Restaurant Experience?

There was a thread about the best hotel experience previously, but I was wondering if anyone ever started one about the Best Restaurant experiences they've ever had...?

Mine was in Kennebunkport Maine, I was very young and don't remember the name of the restaurant. Only that the waiters were so professional, yet friendly and not intrusive. Water glasses were filled without us even noticing, their attitudes towards us were as though we were royalty, and every person in the place had this calm confidence that made us feel at ease and as though no matter what, we were in excellent hands.

Anyone else?

Platinum Amex - Worth it?

I plan to travel to Armenia, Yerevan in summer. And I want to find a good hostel there. I found this one - Rafael Hostel in Yerevan . Has anyone stayed there? Is it really good? They say they have great hospitality and friendly atmosphere there. http://hostels.am

They say the Hostel is located in the city center, nearly all main places of interest are in walking distance. In 10 minutes walk you will reach Republic Square. There are shops and supermarkets close to it. Is it right?
